GARDEN d'LIGHTS CLASSES
Learn to make flower lights the Bellevue Botanical Garden way. We now offer one or two training classes each month, throughout the year, March through September.

Next classes are in March 2012

Unfortunately we are not able to reserve class spaces in advance until the class is online and open for registration. You may only register for classes that have been posted online.

Training Classes: Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Class fees are $5 per class for Society members (non-refundable) and $15 per class for non-members (refundable with 2-day notice). Classes are held in the Garden office and are limited to 12 participants.

Plan 2 to 3 hours for each class. We supply all equipment, including wire cutters, pliers and scissors for use in class. Each participant will make a flower and be taught some of the basic techniques of light construction. What you create will become part of our display. You will be given an instruction sheet and also given the option to purchase supplies for making your own personal items.

Classes are appropriate for participants 16 and older.

Work Parties: After attending a training class you are welcome and encouraged to come to our regular work parties which are usually scheduled at least once a week from March through October. There is no fee for work parties. At work parties you will learn more skills and techniques in flower building. Each time you attend you may take a copy of instructions for a light creation at no charge. Work parties are held on an "open house" format: come when you can and leave when you have to. We do not provide meals for those staying through lunch or dinner hours, but there are usually some "goodies".

Work party schedules are e-mailed to those who attended classes or work parties. This is a private e-mail list which is used for Garden d'Lights information e-mails.

Volunteers who attend our work parties for ten hours or more* will be invited to our special Lights Viewing Potluck Party, traditionally the Tuesday evening before thanksgiving. We have the Park and the wonderful Garden d'Lights display we have created all to ourselves for the evening!

I WANT TO VOLUNTEER, BUT DON'T WANT TO MAKE LIGHTS. CAN I BE OF HELP?

Yes! We welcome volunteers during light installation (the month of November, during the actual show (performing a variety of tasks), and during the take down process (usually the two weeks following the last night of the light show.) You must be 16 or older to participate.

Let us know you would like to help by submitting your information online. Go to submission form.

Please take into consideration that you need to dress for the weather while you volunteer. We are working outside in the winter. Good rain gear, waterproof shoes, gloves, etc. will make your time outdoors in the elements much easier and a lot more fun. We do not work during high wind storms and driving rain, but knowing that we live in the Pacific Northwest, there are days when it is raining and cold and proper apparel is a must.

Volunteers helping during install, show time, and take down do not have to attend a class to learn how to make flowers.

* After ten hours with Garden d'Lights you will be requested to complete a Volunteer Application and a WA State Patrol Background Check Authorization and will be invited to a volunteer orientation
