Viburnum plicatum var. tomentosum

Other cultivars/species:  
A variety of cultivars, including ‘Shasta’, ‘Mariesii’, and ‘Summer Snowflake’.

Extra notes and interesting information:  

Tiered and distinctly horizontal branches are eye-catching.  Provides winter interest as well as shows off the flowers well.
Berries are a favorite of birds.
Wine-red fall color.

Plant type: Deciduous shrub
Family: Caprifoliaceae
Height/Spread: Reaches 8 to 10 feet high, 9 to 12 feet wide.  May be variable by cultivars.
Leaves: 
Dark green 2 to 4 inch ovate leaves have deeply grooved veins.
Flower: 
1” white flowers are clustered together on 2 to 6 inch cymes, held about 2 inches above the foliage. 
Bloom Period:
 
Flowers open in May, red fruit follows in August.
Disease/pests: 
No significant problems.
Conditions: Flowers well in shade or sun, provide more sun in northern latitudes, less in southern ones.  Be sure it gets enough water. Generally a hardy variety.

USDA zones 6-8
Location: Yao Garden, and along the Lake to Lake trail by the parking lot, and on toward the soccer field.
