Rosa glauca

Rosa glauca
Rosa glauca

Extra Notes:  Other cultivars/species: The rose family, Rosaceae, includes a wide variety of well loved fruiting and ornamental plants; it is native to the Northern Hemisphere. There are between 100 and 150 rose species, and thousands of cultivars.  Rosa glauca is a species rose. It was introduced in 1830 and stands out in the rose family in that it has no cultivars.

Extra notes and interesting information: This plant is often grown more for its beautiful foliage than its small flowers. If it is grown for its leaves, pruning should be deep. If flowers and red hips are desired for fall and winter interest, pruning has to be light, since the plant flowers on old wood. The plant suckers and can be naturalized.

Great Plant Pick
