Goshiki
means five colored in Japanese and
refers to the various colors found on
each leaf: cream. pink, orange, yellow,
and white in attractive spots and
swirls.
Uses
include colorful informal hedges, but
they can also be kept in large
containers and as landscape specimens.
Propagation is from soft wood cuttings,
semi hard wood cuttings, layering, air
layering. The plant does not set seed
and flowers are sterile or will not come
true from seed. |

False Holly.
Resembles English holly but leaves are opposite one another on stems
rather than alternate.

Height is 8 to 10
feet over time. Plants are usually taller than wide.
Leaves:
Variegated leaves
can be damaged by frost in colder areas, but new leaves quickly hide
the damage.

fragrant white flowers when older that are very attractive to
hummingbirds.

An extremely
durable plant with no notable pest or disease problems.
Growing Conditions:
Sun to full shade in our climate. Plants will be more compact in
brighter conditions. Drought tolerant once established, but looks
better with some summer watering.
